Enhancing Self-Awareness Through Mindfulness Practice
This Course is not yet open for enrollment. Coming soon.
Overview
This workshop offers an in-depth, evidence-based exploration of how mindfulness enhances self-awareness and facilitates sustainable behavioral change. Drawing on cognitive science, neurobiological findings, and DBT principles, the session examines how present-moment awareness disrupts automatic thinking patterns, reduces emotional reactivity, and promotes intentional, adaptive responses. Participants will analyze the transition from automatic pilot to conscious awareness, considering the role of attention systems, sensory processing, and the thalamus–amygdala pathway in shaping emotional experience. The workshop further demonstrates how mindfulness strengthens executive functions—cognitive flexibility, emotional regulation, and reflective decision-making—ultimately enhancing access to the Wise Mind. Through structured discussion, applied examples, and guided practice, learners will develop a strong theoretical foundation and practical skills (Observe, Describe, Participate) to integrate mindfulness-based strategies into personal, clinical, and educational contexts.
Learning objectives
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Explain the theoretical foundations of mindfulness and its impact on attention, emotional regulation, and self-awareness.
- Differentiate between automatic pilot, emotional mind, reasonable mind, and Wise Mind, and describe how each influences perception and behavior.
- Analyze key neurobiological pathways—including the thalamus–amygdala circuit—and evaluate how mindfulness modulates emotional reactivity.
- Apply core mindfulness skills (Observe, Describe, Participate) to enhance present-moment awareness and reduce habitual, reactive patterns.
- Integrate DBT-informed mindfulness strategies to support behavioral change, improve decision-making, and promote psychological flexibility.
